The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 第三个故事实验对象最为生猛，第二个丧尸惊魂夜气氛还行，就是太老套了，第四个恐怖分子大战吸血鬼感觉刚有点上头就结束了，第一个老鼠人。。。
晃的我这个恶心，最后非要加上个亚裔魔女，不知道是不是映射我大天朝
实在理解不了居然会有人喜欢cult片，看得老子想吐
我只能说，请忽略我对本片的打分，因为这三颗星对我而言毫无意义。
我是真的很喜欢，片子中创新了很多第一人称的镜头。
20211009周六 21:48 都是一场人体变异怪兽秀，无多大惊喜，不过要比第三部好这是肯定的。唯有那个下水道里有种未知恐惧感，结果遇到一群傻逼供养出的鼠人来信仰，这个和吸血鬼那段都有点宗教意味，暴风雨夜守灵遇尸变咬咬咬与变态科学家玩转机械人都麻麻地，最后一个是想拿摄影机过家家吗！
第三个故事算是全系列最佳之一，前三个故事相当不错，最后一个扣分
看完了，眼睛也瞎了。鼠人：特效差评，这是鼠人还是马人哦？守夜：八十年代丧尸片即视，那半拉脑袋让人想起《活跳尸》。铁女：印尼在变态这块赶美超日，血肉横飞中间穿插一段纯爱，太有那味儿了。血族：全程就是个晃，明明是一群种族主义红脖子，怎么翻来覆去虐个白皮吸血鬼，敢不敢抓个黑哥玩？我以为的串场：仙水看到黑暗录像带，逐渐崩坏。实际的串场：一群中二恐怖片脑残粉大搞行为艺术。复古不是说不行，但你不能全盘照抄啊，毫无新意的一部，恐怖和血腥哪样都没到位，老式录像厅画质还看得人想吐。非要说就印尼那段还有点意思，有豚鼠系列精神继承人的味道了。
前几部都忘光光，整体一般般，只有故事三的设定还算不错~6.0

这次晃得更猛了！几个短篇水平层次不齐自然是难以避免，印尼那位又拿到全场最佳。喜欢Cult片的胖友们，入股此系列不亏

不行不太行，第3个故事可以但是格格不入单独出来拍个片成有点爽。
就是特警队的主线录像带没搞明白主题到底是要干嘛，看到女队友准备换衣服还以为要搞黄色结果把队长给杀了。
竟然还有第四部！老鼠人成地狱撒旦，守灵夜破碎尸身，人肉机器细思极恐，肉身炸弹不明所以。够有料，够精彩。
ratman和摄像头女孩我都挺喜欢的，可能隐喻太政治了，我没看懂
很久没有看过这么正儿八经的邪典片了，这种掐头去尾地讲了一段段没来由的故事，既过瘾又充满恶趣味。
血腥也够惊悚也有，再稍稍加点黑色幽默就已经及格了
我靠，太他妈…过于恶心了，但有点好看。我不就爱看恶心的吗？！想把前面的都看了。
