The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 天呐！我看到了什么？影片用轻松诙谐的笔触解构两性关系，由此引申出人过中年的悲欢离合。市井生活的烟火气尽在其中，都市男女的众生相尽收眼底。名为爱情神话，实为人生图鉴。淡化传统三幕，专注日常片段，结构看似松散，实则独具匠心。以白描手法塑造人物形象，价值输出同样不偏不倚。台词妙语连珠，弦外之音更是值得玩味，搭配吴侬软语和精湛的表演，那感觉妙不可言。与此同时，场面调度游刃有余，摄影机从未缺席，轻盈地穿梭在街巷与人物之间，精准地交代着关系，调动着情绪。视听语言和文本内容浑然天成，场景、音乐、迷影等元素融合成独特的气质与魅力。这不就是中国版伍迪·艾伦吗？这样的作品出现在内地院线简直像做梦一样！如果说《雄狮少年》是端倪可察的黑马，本片则完全是意料之外的惊喜。2021年度华语电影十佳必有一席之地！灵啊~
偶然与想象，纠缠与分离。是谁疯疯癫癫泣诉往事是假，是谁踉踉跄跄笑谈爱情是真。一曲歌短，一夜情长，睡着在影院里的梦，迷失在城市中的人，去哪里寻一座喷泉。
肯定会是最近看过的院线片最喜欢的一部，似乎又看到了从前老上海电影里的那种灵气，嬉笑怒骂，男女机锋，处处是埋梗、铺垫和映射，有种知识分子式的幽默感和国产片里少见的轻盈气质（音乐品味也非常可）。这部电影里有真实的女性，真实的欲望/爱情，还有一种非常理想化的生活状态。看似它也被包裹在了一些现实的鸡毛里，但这就是生活：如果六便士不存在，月亮也不会存在。
之前看到有人谈到，北京的纵向折叠远大于横向折叠。就比如资料馆的群里，什么社会阶层的人都有，这对上海来说也是一样。不过是文艺品味的些许参差，就对此大肆发表“左翼”言论，此类影评实在不堪卒读。由于宣发的影响，我便着侯麦喜剧的期待观影，没想到这部电影出奇的姜文——男性表面风光与骨子里的怯弱，女性的侵略性和难以捉摸。以及巨大信息量的台词及其背后的隐喻—这根本不伍迪艾伦—老乌的那句“影院里看《星期六、星期天和星期一》”，实际上点破了他出国的具体年月，并进一步暗示了其虚无主义的缘由，再比如展厅里的那位游客点评老白画作“过时”，作者简直跳出来点名影片所有角色当前的状态——楼屋深深避世人，摩挲药椀了昏晨。志怪应逢天雨粟，作痴聊博海扬尘。他们不属于现在也不曾拥有过去，而是在时代的某个破碎的片段稚拙又茫然。
这个电影啊，就算剧情超级超级烂，整体素质也不会差到哪里去。因为它有那个“味”，市井的味，平民的味，而实际上里面的人物都属于中产阶级，上好大学、留过洋、有房有钱，可看起来还是普普通通的人，而不是摆起面孔充当霸道总裁和高冷公主，除了口角上的暗暗小交锋，再无波诡云谲，看起来舒服，听起来舒服，即使死亡也没有产生不适。
“这个世界上没有值不值得，只有喜不喜欢”，用朋友的话说，所有爱上海的人都会喜欢《爱情神话》

小而美的海派想象，可貴的幽默感讓作品顯得輕盈不離地。喜歡蘇北人驅趕自行車和老白李小姐天台抽香煙。老烏去世以後的20分鐘感覺有點沒必要。
另外，难道就找不到一位上海的年轻演员吗？一个上海味的片子，普通话都显得异样。找一个同样文化环境的演员很难吗？
对我来说就是五颗星，全程日常，却没有一句废话。每个人物都那么鲜活，笑中带泪。
书架上有一本《繁花》，我现在有兴趣看看了。
“我以前热爱生活，现在我更加热爱生活。同时，生活让我觉得恐怖，难以深入。因此，我虽相信，却持有疑虑。是的，我愿意相信，我愿意活着，永远。”
9/10。一群嘴上说着不相信爱情神话，内心却渴望爱情神话的人，其实并不是不相信，只是不相信会在自己身上降临而已。何不自己创造呢。有一说一，配乐真的一级棒！
没报什么预期反倒有惊喜，中国终于拍出了一部能看不尬的都市中年爱情故事，上海还真的蛮合适的，不懂沪语笑点减半，对话埋了很多小心思和历史梗，加分。
上午场竟然也半满，灵的。语言和文化互为表里，一定要沪语才好看。饮食男女，都是此厢土著的大事件。今年的电影也就这样了，清粥小菜，吃吃蛮好。
低配饮食男女 在我体系里应该三星半 但是为了鼓励4星 这个质感的电影我想不到大陆会有第二个导演拍得出 连配乐都如此好听 这个电影对得起电影二字 世界上最遥远的距离莫过你觉得李焕英是好片 这个是烂片
此片的口碑大胜利实在让人目瞪口呆。网剧电影，快销脱口秀+散装视听语言。金句频出的网络写手第一部长片就忙着自我致敬，倒也不必如此自信。要素如此齐全，如果没有徐峥等大牌脸，就像放大过油版学生作业，还有没扇匀的烟。合家欢，满场观众笑得开心，但我越来越迷惑了。被杨博士带着炒币后，感觉万物都像区块链。一张嘴，一个故事，一群人往里砸钱。
太爱这版倪虹洁，找不到安稳地，就奔赴下一场party。
审美和文本都太牛了…整个片子让人足够快乐，但又快乐得恰到好处而能够留出空隙来啧啧称奇
突然有点 get 到上海的好了，与其说是什么文化，倒不如说是长期的财富聚集带来的普遍的选择自由——不是说高端低端，也不是说每个人选择的情况多种多样，而是说可选择的余地很大所以想选确实可以随便选——因此似乎所有角色，甚至是鞋匠，都在生活，而不只是生存。经济基础决定上层建筑，文化都是物质积淀出来的。我相信50年后到我死的时候，在社会主义中国，各地的人都已经懂得了生活的自由，也都可以活得浪漫，像是神话。
