The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 劲儿十足，浓浓的的宿命论。前一章很像权力的游戏。
要说画面吧，蛮荒cult还挺好看的，剧情么就实在太狗血了。

作为莎翁原型故事的原型，拍口耳相传的folklore故事，神神叨叨的豪横调度和怎么横移推拉也不怕露怯的长镜，不但是有带投资了之后的任性，更有栩栩展开历史画卷重温导演悚人民俗美学的意谓，在那个土鳖懊恼特土鳖的戏剧核心上，真是现实不得不往预言上靠，这么一看，所谓现实主义神话传说，那不就是民俗吗......
并非一味追究仇恨，更多在于雪恨中，在血腥里表达出理性。循序渐进，步步为营，重情节。虽没直接的拔剑相向，但却更耐看。

视觉效果拉满，魔改剧情垃圾。把莎翁的性格命运悲剧改成了蛮荒砍杀游戏，有这爱好去改别的故事去好吗？
摄影美哭！唯一不足的是在优秀的演员配置和壮丽的风景拍摄下没有更有深度去展现这个角色以及这个故事的更多面向，一切都很符号化，就像每一幕的文字标题，充满着神秘又原始的符号印象。总的来说还是很满意！
5分吧，多一星给梁朝伟~一个可怜的空巢老人因为儿女常年在外太过寂寞思念亡妻而被电信诈骗的故事~

导演与片方的撕扯总是没有好的结果，脱离了A24制作上的把控本片提供的视听效果完全败给去年更加纯粹的《绿衣骑士》，冰岛远景的长镜头摄影毫无新意。本来期待罗伯特·艾格斯与安雅的再次合作，安雅却完全沦为了港陆合资片里的大陆女演员，纯纯的女工具人范本，献出的裸背毫无惊艳可言。直到最后两裸男在地狱之门前的盘肠大战，也只能带来一个哈欠。
难得有一部完全没有黑人的欧美电影了。玩过《刺客信条·英灵殿》的表示，各方面真的很还原。
沙拉碧指使刀疤杀木法沙，火光中辛巴和刀疤决斗同时死掉，不用浪费时间了，不值得看……
